I really like this place — it has a unique atmosphere. The food is tasty; don’t expect it to be exactly like in China, as it’s a bit Americanized, but still much better than many other places. Prices are reasonable for San Francisco, and portions are generous. I’ve been here a few times and tried several dishes, including sirloin steak, roast pork, and beef tongue — all were really good. I wanted to try the ribeye steak, but every time I asked for it at dinner, the lady said it was sold out. If you want it, you’ll need to come for lunch rather than dinner. A nice touch is that each meal comes with small extras: a side of soup, a single Chinese-style dumpling, and complimentary tea. The lady who works there is very official and a bit grumpy — she could smile more — but overall, it’s a great place with a unique vibe, big portions, and fair prices.

So awesome. Great hearty food with an awesome lady serving us at affordable prices! Food comes with hot tea, soup, and also pot stickers (which we rejected cos we don't take meat). The unagi was good and a really thick big piece. Better than what you could get at Japanese restaurants. For the pepper fish rice, I also added an egg. After which, the lady offered us ice cream on the house! And she further served the orange to my friend who didn't want the ice cream.

We always make a stop here on our way home after an extended time away and order our usuals. There’s something really comforting about the familiar flavors, and it always hits the spot when we start missing home. Roast Pork with Gravy – We always ask for extra gravy over the rice. This dish is super consistent. Flavorful every time and exactly what we expect. Lamb Stew with Gravy – Also great with gravy over the rice. It can be a little hit or miss depending on the cut of meat. Usually it’s hearty with generous portions, though occasionally there’s more bone than meat. Still, the flavor makes up for it, and we keep coming back for it. Service – It’s efficient and no-frills. You won’t get chit-chat or extra pleasantries, but the food comes out fast, packed well for takeout, and the staff knows what they’re doing. It’s straightforward and reliable. Overall: 5/5 – Solid food, dependable experience, and always a welcome stop for our family.

I think the pork chop alone was a bit dry. Though the value was pretty good for $14. Came with dumpling soup and tea. I think I'm supposed to be ordering something with a sauce as it looked like everyone else did. So next time I shall try again.

Updated review 4/8/2025: It was really slow for New Lun Ting Cafe on a Monday night at dinner time. It was me and one other patron. The Vietnamese restaurant across the street was empty too. X&Y down the block had people waiting outside though. My food came out within 10 minutes. I can't say the prime rib $24 was delicious, my expectations were low. The meat was rough. I had a hard time cutting it. The roasted pork $14 with the orange gravy is much better. For the first time, I had room for the complementary ice cream. Updated review 3/1/2022: A lot of the Chinatown restaurants close early nowadays. At 6:30pm, these restaurants were closed: New Hollywood Bakery, New Regent and Yin Du (Yelp hours are wrong) on Pacific Ave., San Sun (Yelp hours are wrong) on Washington St. and VIP Cafe (Yelp hours are wrong) on Broadway. I'm fortunate New Lun Ting was open. The older waitress/owner was working tonight. After reviewing the comprehensive menu for like five minutes, I decided on their runny egg with shrimp chow fun $12.50. This dish is doused with hoisin sauce and was delicious. I only got four shrimps though. That is unusually low compared to other restaurants that serve this dish. I guess the complementary pot sticker and cup of house vegetable soup made up for it. I left really full. Thank you New Lun Ting Cafe aka Pork Chop House. Updated review 12/22/2021: Nowadays, most restaurants close around 8pm. I love how they are open until 9:30pm. Tonight I had their prime rib with lo-mein $19.65. On the menu, it isn't called prime rib but rather "Rib Eye Roast". It is the 5th down on the left side of the menu. It is due to bad translation I assume. It usually cost $1.50 to change from rice to lo-mein. Since I came after 8:30pm, they ran out of rice and the waitress let me substitute it for free. Spaghetti is also available as an option instead of rice. The meat itself isn't that great but of acceptable quality. I ordered medium and it was cooked perfectly. The butter from the corn spilled over a bit onto the prime rib and it more fragrant. Parts in the middle were a bit chewy. They do provide a decent sized cup of au jus for dipping in case it is too bland. Great job crew at Pork Chop House. Original review: There's something special about Pork Chop House. It feels old and historic. Our meal started off with a complementary Hong Kong style borscht soup and a pot sticker. We had the corned beef and pork chop combo and their prime rib special. The meals came with a side of canned corn, cooked cabbage and rice. That au jus sauce and the orange gravy is pretty good. The meat wasn't dry and didn't need it. The food tasted so good, we ordered two more plates to-go for dinner. Great job everyone at Pork Chop House.

A San Francisco Institution In for a late lunch, was happy surprised the restaurant was not busy. I ordered the Ribeye medium, served with hot Au Jus and a side of rice and corn. Ribeye was a hefty portion, seasoned well, and plenty of Au Jus to dip in and enjoy I’ll be back

Service was fast, the cut of the ribeye is appropriate for the price and despite being budget—they cooked it so well. Your meal comes with a drink or tea, a fried dumpling, and a small soup. Everything was delicious. The establishment is not frilly, but it was clean and organized. The gravy was delicious, but next time I’m getting it on the prime rib or rib eye!
